The most palatable and healthy parrot food out there

Edited to say that Milo recently began happily eating his pelleted food without complaint. Exactly why, is unclear. The flavor of Roudybush (which is no flavor) hasn’t changed in the over a decade I’ve been feeding him it. I still make him other options every day and now he’s eating about half and half.I still wish these companies would put some flavor in these pelleted foods and what about a blend of textures? My 43 yo Double yellow Amazon has been on pelleted food since we discovered he’s allergic to nuts 39 years ago. His vet. Tells us he is the only Amazon patient in his sge range that doesn’t have a heart condition and she credits the pelleted diet. When we switched, Harrisons was the only pelleted food on the market and it was pretty new. That brand hasn’t changed - it’s bitter and otherwise flavorless. As the only choice, it set my bird up to dislike all pelleted foods. You name it, if it’s nut free, we’ve tried it. The problem with every single food out there is that if it has any flavor at all it’s a chemical fake fruit flavor. Roudy Bush is pretty flavorless, but it’s been the most accepted food for my guy for over a decade. So does Milo happily eat this? No, hence the 4 stars ( it would get 1 or 2 if there was a rival that was any better). But he will munch on it for snacks if left in his cage. He eats it after we enhance it.What I mostly do with this is grind it up in my bullet blender or a 1970’s food processor or a grain mill, all of which I own. These pellets will break everything else that is more recent than the 1970’s.Once blended to the consistency of flour, I use it to make cookies. To the flour, I add ginger ( he loves ginger) and other spices I test on him that he likes. I use about a heaping tablespoon to 4 cups of ground pellets. In another dish, I puree fresh brocolli, kale, brussel sprouts ( his vet wants him eating lots of dark greens), with carrots, raw eggs, apple sauce, red palm oil, bell peppers - whatever is in my produce drawer except for avocado, of course. The amount of each is mostly by feel.,I mix these up to the consistency if cookie dough and divide it into fourths roll them into logs and freeze three of them. I make thin cookies out of the remaining dough and bake at 300 F on a greased cookie sheet. They won’t rise, so you want them thin so they will cook through but not burn on the edges. They take about 20 minutes to cook.Milo will sometimes eat these as is, but frankly, they’re still pretty bland. My family has all tried them and agree - they taste like rusks or another bland cracker. So we smear hot sauce or salad dressing or spaghetti sauce on them or crumble them into eggs or fried rice etc. You’d think after all that I’d give it 1 star. But I’m 39 years into getting this guy to eat and I can get a few months meals out of one prep session and then it’s just a matter of dressing it up for variety and interest. And, most importantly, aside from cataracts ( one from an injury) he’s healthy.

Good value

I buy this for my crimson bellied parrot and she loves it I buy the mini as she doesn't like the bigger pellets. I have bought this many times and is my go to for her daily food.

Happy parrot

Happy healthy parrot makes a happy owner. Our parrot is 41 years old and we’ve had him since he was 4 months old. We’ve used these pellets for many years and his age tells us he’s well fed with a great product
