Great Avian Diet

I've made this a part of my parrot's diet. He loves it, it has become the favorite part of his overall feeding experience.

Cockatoo loves it. Smaller birds can eat it too.

Our cockatoo loves this stuff. Its so much better than corn based pellets. Also our little cockatiel like it. Its a bit big for primary food, but it is good for her to work on.

My picky bird LOVES this!

My 39 year old Amazon has spent his life on seed diet. I tried MANY TIMES switching to various pellet foods to no avail. I found this in a final attempt to find a pellet food he’ll eat. And success!! Not only does he love it, he doesn’t seem to miss his seed diet. He also needed to gain some weight and I think this is doing the trick. (I also give him fresh fruits/veggies and nuts with it). PS, they smell good enough to eat myself. I haven’t tried one yet though 😆

Ou dusky pionus LOVES these!

He’s picky about his pelleted food, but he’s never turned these down. Expensive, but frankly, so is much of the manufactured parrot food, so it is what it is.

Smells wonderful

Both my very picky birds are this almost right away! It always takes a few days but my Amazon just loves it so much. Even my little Red Belly likes it...It smells so good I wanted to taste it haha

My birds ask for them

Except for the cost, I LOVE these pellets and more importantly, so do my birds!I tried every pellet on the market and every conversion method for 7 years with one of my Greys and could NOT get her switched from the seed diet she had been on while with her former owner. Then I discovered Oven Fresh Bites. Within 3 days, she switched off of the seed and on to these pellets . Now, even if she has other foods in her bowl, if she is out of Caitec, she will repeatedly tell me " I need some dinner in my bowl". She only stops if I give her the Caitec.I have recommended these pellets to other bird owners who have trouble getting their birds on pellets and almost all have had the same results I did. I was able to switch birds of two friends over too when those birds birds came to board for a few days here at my house. My birds are so much healthier now that they are on the Caitec pellets. I sent some to a friend whose seed eating AG had a stroke. She blended the Bites in to a mash, spoon fed him and he recovered. Now after a combination of the Bites and fresh foods, he has fully recovered. There are two drawbacks. The first is that there is a LOT of waste when feeding these pellets. They are super crumbly and so after one bite, chunks fall in to the bird's bowls and the floor of the cage. I only use the medium size because of this. The large pellets just mean more waste and I have never had luck getting my birds to eat the crumbles. That said, I do make use of some of the crumbles by using them for making birdie bread and as an addition to fresh foods. The hardest thing to deal with though is the cost. A one pound bag averages $17-20. Because of the waste, a pound only lasts a few days here. I purchase individual bags fairly often but more frequently buy 15 pound boxes through a local vendor so that I don't have to pay shipping. But those 15 pound boxes cost $99 or more online. That makes it one of the most expensive pellets out there which has been the reason that quite a few other bird owners I have suggested Caitec to have chosen other brands. I have an extremely low income so it's a challenge for me to keep my birds on the Caitec Oven Fresh Bites but with my birds ready acceptance of them and their improved health, I will make sacrifices in my own diet to keep my birds on the Caitec pellets.

Smells like oatmeal cookies!

The pieces smell like oatmeal cookies. Our parrot takes a long time to warm up to anything new and so at this point just takes sample bites but that is a lot more than she did with two other pellets we had bought. These are a lot softer than the other pellets we've had and I suspect she'll warm up to them soon.

Extremely Picky Quaker Likes These!

Item arrived in the mail with a great expiration date. Upon opening the package, the contents smelled and looked fresh. The pellets were not any harder than a nutriberry. My Quaker parrot is an EXTREMELY picky eater. He will eat nutriberries and avicakes. I have tried a multitude of different foods for him. I tried this without much hope, but after only a minute or two, he went to his dish, grabbed one of these with his foot and started eating it. If he continues to eat and like them, I will be returning. I love the ingredients and how fresh this food is for my Quaker. For some Quakers, however, the pieces may be too big. You will have to break them in half for Quaker size and smaller (conures, cockatiels, etc).

The best food on the market

This is amazing food. I won't give my amazon any other brand. When I got him he was eating the fruity pebbles, missing feathers on chest and back. I took him to the vet and she said it was likely his diet. He refused to eat anything fresh. I love that this is just regular food and not dyes and chemicals. With this diet only and filtered water he has almost regrown all his feathers. He gets 4 peanuts in the morning, this food and just 2 days ago has begun to eat fresh food. I am also trying the treats by the same company. Love love love this food!

Everyone Swears For Picky Birds, but...

I have 9 birds, all rescues and all were on seed diets so I've really run the gamut of working on switching them over to a more appropriate diet (pellet, bird bread, fruit, veggies, chop, nuts). I had hoped this would help bridge that transition as this has been a particular struggle for me.I purchased this for mainly my Amazon and Conure, however, I've been able to break it down for my Lovebirds and Budgies, as well.My Conure takes very well to it (but he's an easy to please bird) as do my budgies (I break down this size for them). My Lovebirds and Amazon, however, do not like the bites and will go as far as to throw it out of their bowls. I have tried various sizes of the product without success. So, given that it did have success with 6 of my 9 birds I'd give this a 4-star rating and would say it's worth the try for the price. If it doesn't work, don't get disheartened, try different sizes of the product by breaking it down further (which won my budgies over) before throwing in the towel. While it wasn't a full knock out the park it did have some success, though the bird I really need to seed break (Amazon) remains unimpressed so it's on to another product, one that I can hopefully get "all" my birds to enjoy so I don't have to buy a variety of pellets/bites to feed them (for cost).

My picky bird absolutely loves these!

Update: the price has more than doubled on this product from this seller so I’ll have to look elsewhere to buy it.I've been trying to get my bird on a more pellet-based diet for awhile now. He gets the Zupreem fruit pellets -- or birdie fruit loops, as I like to call them -- every day, but I wanted something a bit more substantial for the main part of his diet. He loves his Nutriberries, but he should really just get those more as treats. So, I decided that I would find pellets that are big because even though he's smaller -- he's a Senegal parrot -- he loves to take a piece of food and climb to the top of his play gym to eat it. And these are about the size of the Nutriberries so I thought they would be a good choice as he doesn't really like the smaller sized ones. Well, the first day I put about five of these in his food bowl and hoped for the best. He promptly flipped his dish over, dumping the pellets on the bottom of his cage. He's not exactly shy in telling me what he likes and doesn't like. Of course, knowing he's a bit like a tempermental toddler, I put them back in his bowl and then secured it with two binder clips (ha, sometimes I win). He just picked each one up and dropped them to the bottom of his cage (my victory was short lived). But, I have more patience than him so I simply left them there and went about my day. He still got some fruit and veggies, and a couple Nutriberries as a snack, but I kept giving him the pellets each morning. Finally, he gave in and tried them. "Oh wait, these actually taste good. Gee, maybe she isn't trying to kill me."And now? He waits in the morning for me to put these in his dish, and I always hand one to him as he sits at the top of his play gym, all six ounces of him dominating over the household like a flamboyant fascist dictator (he dresses better than most). He leans forward to snatch them from my hand. And after he eats them up, he goes down to the bottom of his gym and picks up any leftover pieces and crunches them up until brown dust is all that remains. I'm kind of amazed he hasn't licked that up, in fact. So, if you have a picky bird -- who doesn't -- give these a try. And remember, it takes awhile for birds to try new things. They are notoriously set in their ways and typically don't like new things right away. Just have some patience and remember that while it may not always feel like it, you are actually the one in charge (no, really). I had to put up with a few days of screaming (nothing new), but now the mornings are so awesomely quiet as he chows down on his breakfast. And although I haven't actually tasted one, I imagine they taste great because they smell amazing, with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg and other spices (not really sure which ones). Seriously, they kind of smell like they should be cookies. And who doesn't love cookies?

My cockatoo was going through a really bad time and had stopped eating most of her fresh ...

I never write reviews, But I always read them. I thought this was the time for a little payback. My cockatoo was going through a really bad time and had stopped eating most of her fresh food and ALL of her pellets, and she has been eating pellets for Years!! I was so worried I was buying every pelleted food I could find, her weight was dropping...Honestly I think I bought Every pellet on the Market, seriously. Someone mentioned Oven Baked bites on a forum I was searching on, I Never heard of it before and it was not sold anywhere around me. Went online and bought it. First thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the smell, to me it had a GREAT smell like cinnamon and spice, I tasted it, yep I taste all of them, not bad. I have tasted some that I just spit out! wow B A D. Anyway I put some in her bowl with a mix of other pellets. She picked out the OFB first and just crunched up and dropped it on the floor... Wait, she dug through her bowl and got another one crunched it up still not quite eating it.. But by the 6 or 7the one she was eating!! SMILE by the end of the day this was her pellet of choice! and 4 bags latter she is still choosing and eating this one with Gusto! In all her years (30) she has never eaten a pellet with so much enjoyment. I know each bird has its own likes and dislikes and you Have to Keep trying everything, don't pass this one by because you never heard of it before it worked for us. Thanks Caitec.

Miracle pellet for an amazon that won't touch any other!!

I recently took in a 30 year old amazon that had been on seed his entire life. I called my vet and requested routine bloodwork to check his liver values. Surprise, surprise, his values were increased. I have three other amazons that eat Zupreme and Harrison's pellets, but the newest one wouldn't touch them! I purchased these because my vet recommended them. She stated that birds love these even when they refuse other pellets. He began chowing on these the moment they were put in his dish! Now, doesn't it figure, my other 3 won't touch these! Fingers crossed that between this pellet and fresh fruits, veggies and grains, his recheck bloodwork will come back much improved. By the way, he is off seed entirely!

FINALLY a Pellet My Umbrella Cockatoo Will Eat

My Umbrella Cockatoo, Buddy, is a VERY picky eater. He prefers seed - sunflower and peanuts, of course. He will eat some vegetables, but only if they are green. He does like green beans. He won't eat fruit. He outright refuses, Zupreem, Lefeber, and Harrison's. I began to realize the thing that most pellets had in commons is they are mostly wheat and corn. Oven Fresh Bites ingredients seemed to be more based on oats, millet, and sunflower. This seemed to me to be more seed based and since Buddy loves seed I thought it was worth a try. Well, it was WELL worth the try. Buddy immediately took to them and it they are now the main part of his diet. He is eating more and actually filling his crop more. He's only been eating it a few days but he is definitely visibly more healthy.I do still give him a small amount of seed, but more as 'desert' or a treat. The only 'negative' is that the pellets do crumble and break and could lead to waste. When I next order I'll order the Small Parrot size. It is the exact same ingredients and dietary analysis, but since they are already essentially broken up there will be less waste. Also, Buddy is a bit of a 'prissy' eater. I'm not sure if this is normal for U2's, but he doesn't take big bites. He likes to hold his food in his claw and nibble at it. These pellets are not too large for his size, but due to the way he eats they do break up and fall. This breakage and droppage doesn't occur so much with the smaller size in the Small Parrot bag.

My picky parrot loves Oven Fresh Bites

For years I had been feeding my Senegal Harrison's pellets. But, as parrots often do for no obvious reason, she decided she didn't like them anymore. I had to find another pellet to supplement fresh foods and small amount of seed she gets every day, but she turned her little beak up at everything. I learned about the Oven Fresh Bites from another Senegal owner on Facebook. I couldn't find them in the local pet shop, so I ordered online. She eats these!! She is back to eating a more balanced diet because of them. They are overall less expensive than Harrisons, but they are also very crumbly, so there can be a lot of waste. But I think the crumbliness is part of the appeal of the pellets to the parrot. They're not completely uniform in shape and texture and don't take much work to bite through, so I am resigned to the extra mess because she seems happy with them.

We call them brownies...

Our bird (a male Eclectus) LOVES these things and would most likely eat them to the exclusion of all else. While they are significantly healthier than seeds, they are just part of a well rounded parrot diet. Don't forget those fresh things that no amount of baked item can replace. However, there are folks out there who will try to sell you on "special" bird diets and between these and fresh fruits and veg our parrot looks great and seems to be fairly happy. So find out what your bird likes and doesn't like fresh fruit and veg wise and add these and you're probably set for feeding your bird. (Like anything pet related you can be as picky or "organic" for almost any cost. We like our little guy, but aren't going to spend a fortune on him, and these fill a good spot in his diet.)We have been feeding him these for for than two years now. He's 9 years old.

Caitec Oven Fresh Bites

I use this size for my African grey, Charlie. He was not a big fan of Harrisons and those pellets are very expensive at 25 bucks for a 2.5 lb bag. So I tried these. The first time I fed them he dove right into the bowl and he didn't come up for air for about 5 minutes. I was in shock. That was a few months back and while he isn't as excited as he was, he still eats them. The size is good for him I agree with the other reviewer saying that it is a bit large for a conure.
