Harrison’s Recovery Formula provides easily digestible, complete nutrition for birds that are sick, injured, or recovering from serious health conditions. It supports strength and recovery by delivering nutrients that are simple for birds to absorb during critical care.

This formula is also useful during diet transitions, appetite loss (anorexia), or slowed digestion, and can serve as a hand-feeding formula for certain small insectivorous birds that have difficulty digesting cornstarch.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS:

  • Recovery & Critical Care Support – Provides balanced nutrition for birds recovering from illness, injury, or pansystemic failure.

  • Easy-to-Digest Nutrients – Helps birds absorb essential nutrients when appetite or digestion is compromised.

  • Supports Diet Transition & Appetite Loss – Useful during diet changes or when anorexia slows gastrointestinal emptying.

  • Hand-Feeding Option for Insectivorous Birds – Suitable for species such as bushtits, wrentits, vireos, wrens, and small flycatchers or warblers.

The correct feeding technique must be used in order to prevent injury to the bird or inhalation of the formula that could result in pneumonia and death. If using a non-metal or flexible tube, be sure that the bird does not damage the tube.

Step 1: Gently feel the crop to determine that it is almost empty before feeding.

Step 2: Mix fresh: 1 part dry formula to 1-3 parts bottled “drinking water” heated to approximately 103°F (39°C). Do not microwave. Allow to cool to lukewarm.

Step 3: Feeding with a tube is probably the most universally successful technique. As one faces the bird, position the tube to enter the oral cavity from the left side of the bird’s beak and direct it toward the right side of the bird’s neck. Deposit the food into the bird’s crop.

Step 4: Feed the bird until the crop is full but not overstuffed and clean the excess formula from the bird’s beak, feathers and enclosure. Repeat as often as needed to maintain or increase the bird’s body weight.

Harrison's is committed to protecting your bird from artificial preservatives. Here are some suggestions to keep your food fresh without preservatives:

  • Squeeze all air out of the bag and zip it shut at the top.
  • If the zip lock gets removed or damaged, fold the top over several times and close with a clip.
  • Keep food in original bag.
  • Do not repackage into plastic bags or containers.
  • Purchase Harrison's foods only in their original packaging.
  • Refrigeration or freezing after opening may help maintain freshness.

Multiple feedings per day were needed

Excellent product. Mix as directed and consider dipping syringe into applesauce to add flavor and calories. My macaw was not able to digest seeds 3 months ago and with this supplement, he is now back to his normal healthy self.

You can actually push this through a syringe and a tube! Wonderful!

Greta product. A lot of these products that are marketed for sick animals and claim to be useful for tube feeding are far too chunky to tube feed. This is the ONLY I've found that can be ran through a syringe and a tube! It's one of their thighs you never want to need but if you do need it, it'll make life easier. Easy to mix and one of my hens actually started eating again on her own just because she liked the taste of this. Bought a second bag to store in the freezer for emergencies.

emergency supportive care

Bought this to syringe feed a sick budgie. I can’t say that this is the sole reason for my bird’s recovery, but it seems to have contributed a good amount (aka, don’t just rely on this, see an avian vet as well if possible). Make sure to syringe feed correctly so your bird doesn’t aspirate, and follow the mixing instructions so it doesn’t come out too watery or too dense.

One of the BEST formulas for Pigeons ♡

A great go-to for hand raising pigeons or helping them recover from sickness. I've raised many baby pigeons on this formula and they've grown into beautiful birds! I love how smooth the formula is and they seem to prefer the taste of this formula over Kaytee. They go nuts when they know its feeding time. I like to also mix in the Harrison's Fine Potent Mash into the formula for a bit more protein and solids for them to digest. Great reliable brand all around. This formula also helped me save a sick bird and brought it back from malnutrition and uncertainy when I rescued her. ♡

Essential part of any avian emergency kit

I’ve had chickens for 10 years and I wish I had known about Harrison’s sooner. There were times I thought I was looking at Marek’s but in desperation I treated it as a nutritional problem. This product plus selenium plus Nutridrench has saved hens. It should be part of your rescue kit.
