Caution: The correct feeding technique must be used in order to prevent injury to the bird or inhalation of the formula that could result in pneumonia or death.

Species:

  • From day 1 for pionus, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, conures and macaws.
  • From day 7 for other parrots.
  • From day 21 for cockatiels.

Step 1: Gently feel the crop to determine that it is almost empty before feeding.

Step 2: Mix fresh Juvenile Hand-Feeding Formula and bottled “drinking water” heated to approximately 103°F (39°C). Follow proportion of formula to water as directed by your avian veterinarian for the age of your bird. Do not microwave. Allow to cool to lukewarm. Chicks with their eyes opened should be fed 3-4 times daily, and birds with feathers emerging, 2-3 times daily.

Step 3: Feeding with an irrigation syringe is probably the most universally successful technique.

Step 4: Feed the bird until the crop is full but not overstuffed, and clean the excess formula from the bird’s beak, feathers and enclosure.

Feeding Suggestions:

  • One to seven day-old birds and birds with slow crop-emptying may benefit from the use of Recovery Formula or adding a pinch of Fauna Flora to the Formula just prior to feeding.
  • To aid weaning after 21 days of age, add 1 Tbs finely chopped High Potency Formula or finely chopped organic nuts to 1 cup of Formula or introduce dry High Potency Formula in a separate bowl.

Harrison's is committed to protecting your bird from artificial preservatives. Here are some suggestions to keep your food fresh without preservatives:

  • Squeeze all air out of the bag and zip it shut at the top.
  • If the zip lock gets removed or damaged, fold the top over several times and close with a clip.
  • Keep food in original bag. Do not repackage into plastic bags or containers.
  • Use contents within 12 weeks of opening bag.
  • Purchase Harrison's foods only in their original packaging.
  • Refrigeration or freezing after opening may help maintain freshness.

Used for baby conures.

My conures eat Harrison’s pellets so this was the perfect choice for feeding their babies when it came time to co-parent. Easy to mix. No bad odors and the babies loved it!

Baby green cheek loves it!!

I have a baby green cheek. My baby bird eats it even when it’s cool. Which he didn’t with the other formula. It has to stay very warm for him to eat it.

Bought this for a year old caique

I decided to try this after a rough start with my baby. She came to me sick and needed antibiotics and didn’t have much of an appetite, then family issues happened and she started plucking, that continued. Went to the vet, she was in normal range but noticed her crop was never full. Shes a year old and I started using this hand feeding formula with probiotics. She’s finally thriving, her feathers grew back FAST and she doesn’t pluck. Shes also so active it’s hard to keep up. I really wish i tried this sooner and have been telling everyone I can about it.
